ISLE SUR LA SORGUE, "THE LITTLE VENICE OF PROVENCE"
L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a small town who developed himself against the river of the Sorgue during the history's centuries, the name of this town makes more sens when we discover the place (L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue means the island on the Sorgue's river) because the town is literally surrounded by its waters, that why the nickname of the town is « The Venice of Provence ». The ambience is full of romance; the watermills which started to turn during the thirteenth century for supplying the first sheet factorys are still here, and some of them are still running on the river. Peoples are very gourmand in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, we can find many traditional confectionery from Provence, the traditional markets are full of fruits and vegetables which come from the lands around the town, in the restaurants we are cooking the freshly caught fish. Today L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is the european capitale of the antique dealers,in the picturesque streets and the river's bank we can see the traders and their old items, many Artists and artisans decided to work here as well; it's all of this alchemy who give to this town its unique poetry.
